What Real Estate Agents Need To Know
"You have to have this new technology." Yeah, you've heard that before, right? It seems like real estate agents get sold a bunch of hooey every time some new technology comes along, or at least when some new technology wanna-be comes along.
This time is different. I know, you've that before, too. But really. I mean it.
Times and techniques are changing
Mobile IDX is important because there is a major shift taking place in the platforms home buyers use to search for real estate listings. Back in the old days, buyers had to go directly to the agent to gain access to the coveted MLS database. Then, as IDX websites became more prevalent, buyers could go directly to the agent's website to get the same information. Searches could be performed, results saved, and alerts created to notify when new matching listings come online.
Now, younger generations spend less time on their computers than ever before, and more time than ever on their mobile phones. If you've every tried to navigate a website made for a large computer screen on a mobile device, you know that most customers aren't going to tolerate that for long. It just doesn't create a–how shall we say–pleasant user experience.
Enter mobile-optimized IDX
When you have a website that is optimized for mobile phones, your clients (and prospects) can search for listings in a format that is actually convenient and efficient. No more scrolling sideways to read wide paragraphs, or having virtually microscopic text sizes in order to see the whole page.
Mobile IDX websites are optimized for small screens and are usually very fast-loading, making them a hit for the consumer. Users can sign up for alerts just like on regular websites, sending the lead directly to the agent with increased efficiency. The best part...the user is one click away from contacting you, since they are navigating your site using a phone.
What to look for in a Mobile IDX platform
- Do you own the webhosting account? It's always best to have full access to the server so you can make customizations in the future.
- Can your existing website automatically redirect mobile phone users to the new Mobile IDX site?
- Can you easily add content to the site or are there large hourly fees to add pages or edit them?
- Can users sign up for an account quickly and easily so you can get leads out of the site?
- Can users easily call you or text you right from each listing page to get more info?
- Is there a lead management backend where you can view your leads and their search history?
These are just a few of the things you should look for when you're considering purchasing a mobile IDX website.
